Simulation Analysis of the Risk of Water Vapor Condensation on the Walls of Ventilation Ducts Leading of Air From The Heat Pump for Domestic Hot Water (str. 511 nr. 12/48/2017)

During domestic hot water preparation using a heat pump charging energy from the removed air from the room, it may happen condensation of water vapor on the surface of the ventilation ducts. In the article variant calculations of the condensation risk on the walls of ventilation ducts were made. The influence of the air temperature directed to the duct, the airflow, and the different heights of the ventilation ducts were taken into account. Numerical analysis was performed in steady state.

Based on the calculations, it was found that in ventilation ducts there is a risk of condensation, especially in rooms with high relative humidity. As a result of the cool air flow through the ventilation ducts, the temperature of internal surface of the ducts can be much lower. In some cases, it will foster the condensation of water vapor no surface, which can result in the development of molds. To protect the construction of chimneys from damage caused by the condensation of the water vapor in the chimney construction, corrosion-resistant pipes should be used and condensate drainage from these ducts should be provided.
